Abstract

The purpose of this pilot study was to explore participants’ awareness and interpretation of disturbing emotions, and further to gauge the effect of directed intention through heart-focused breathing to calibrate the intensity of those emotions. Of particular interest to this study were emotions that participants, as graduates of the Center’s Inner Journey 1 workshop, had identified as manifestations of core emotional addictions to security, power-control, sensation or suffering. The broader purpose was to help identify a larger, more comprehensive investigation in the near future regarding the redirection of emotional energy to transform obsessive thinking and compulsive behaviors. Future research as well as suggestions for refining practice are discussed.
